Recently I went to range for a practice session. I shot several different guns and about 450 rounds of practice. So this episode is about my experiences during that practice session. Also, a listener called in about appendix carry.

I was a guest on the Roadgunner Podcast last week and Chaz and I talked about concealed carry, a couple of guns, training, busting off the X, moving and shooting and more. You’ll enjoy it. I also begin with a voice mail regarding small guns.

Inexpensive revolvers are the main topic of this episode. Many people who are on a tight budget but also have the need to obtain a firearm for self defense should consider an inexpensive revolver. This episode features a special guest, Glen Tate to discuss this subject. You’ll also hear some excellent listener voice mails and my response.

This episode is all about 1911 type pistols. Jon Hodoway of Nighthawk Custom Training joins me to follow up the 1911 podcast we did several months ago. This time we get into great detail about the positives of the 1911 pistol platform. We discussed the advantages of the 1911 and some good 1911 guns to purchase in different price ranges. For those of you who regularly carry and shoot the 1911 pistol, you’ll enjoy this show quite a bit.

Should you use a compensated or ported gun for concealed carry? I received an email from a listener about this subject, so Ben and I got together to answer that question. This is a subject I’ve never talked about on this podcast, so I was thankful for the emailed question. We also did a short review on Springfield XD and XDS pistols.

This midweek MSP (Modern Self Protection) podcast hosted by Ben Branam is a review of the Kel Tec P-32 pocket pistol. Ben does a nice job of discussing the pro’s and con’s of this pocket mousegun. I used to have a P3AT and it’s almost identical to the P-32. So if you’re considering a pocket pistol from Kel Tec you might gain a lot from this review. I also start the episode with some listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob and Ben.

A recent shooting at a college in California has sparked more controversy about whether students at universities should be able to carry concealed handguns for self defense. I think they should be allowed to. So this episode is based on an excellent article in Guns and Ammo magazine about the subject of concealed carry on campus. I will of course provide a link to that article on the GRRN forum. The first half of this episode is about listener voice mails on open carry, Kahr pistols, IDPA and Ben Branam’s international incident that almost happened. You never know when and where someone who want’s to harm you, will strike. Often times we are in a compromised position or perhaps your attacker is even so close, that they are at arm’s length or even closer! Violent encounters don’t happen like a competition match. There’s no timer, no scoring system and no re-shoot. Not to make fun of competition at all, because as you know, I totally enjoy it and support the shooting sports. But the main topic of this show is what to think about when shooting at arm’s length distance. So I reviewed and excellent article by Jon Payne of Suarez International on this subject. Some of this is from my personal experience during the training I recently took under him. Also, Jon Hodoway has more to say on how to pick a firearms trainer and ammunition ballistics. You’ll also learn about the Wall Drill. A dry fire practice technique taught by an Army Reserve shooting instructor. I also cover some listener emails on subjects like the Glock 26 as a back up gun and appendix carry. Finally, you’ll hear my review of the Smith and Wesson model 39-2. I recently had a chance to shoot one for the first time. Links for all of these can be found on the Gun Rights Radio Network forum. Thanks for listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show.

A lot of people think they need to make serious modifications to their gun to be able to shoot it well. A couple weeks ago, a shooting buddy of mine decided to pour about $600 worth of upgrades into his new Glock 21SF, then did a range test to see if he could shoot it better. Listen to this episode to find out the results. Are modifications really worth it? Is there a point of diminishing returns? Would you be better off to spend that same money on ammo and training? Do you need a trigger job? What is the 1,000 round trigger job? These are questions I attempt to answer in my own way on this show. You’ll also hear a brief post match discussion between me and Steve and Rick from the Powerfactor Show. For those of you who have emailed me questions and comments, I’ve also handled some of the backlog of emails I’ve received. Thanks for sending them in. This episode starts with a review of the Taurus PT 24/7 DS, 9mm that a listener let me borrow for T&E. Overall, I give this gun high marks. There were some features I didn’t like, but I have to say that this is a very reasonably priced gun that gives you a lot of features and it was very reliable. But I give you my usual unbiased review after shooting over 100 rounds through it. The second half of the show is dedicated to listener emails and questions. I also pick on IDPA a little bit even though I love the sport. This is the last week to take advantage of the drawing for a free admission to the CRG Suarez International Class in Dallas this month. Just invest in my Shooters Club Podcast and I’ll email you your ticket number this weekend. Thanks for listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show
