How to spot trouble and selecting your concealed carry ammo are the two primary topics in this episode. Ben Branam and I discussed these 2 subjects on the way home from an IDPA match about a week ago. We discussed what to look for in someone who may want to harm you and then we transitioned to the subject of ammunition selection and ballistics. I also answer some listener email. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Show
Great show Bob as always! Just wanted to chime in real quick on the choice of bird shot in a home defense shotgun…… don’t do it. It is true it doesn’t over penetrate on drywall but it is also true that it lacks enough penetration to reliably stop a would be threat. We had a patient come through the ER last spring who was part of a family domestic dispute. He was shot straight on center mass of chest from a distance of 20′. He proceeded to disarm the shooter and slapped him around a bit before going to call EMS. CT showed that the shot failed to penetrate his sternum or ribs.He did have a few wounds to his liver and spleen but nothing rendering him incapacitated.Pellets did not penetrate into the upper thoracic cavity. I would highly suggest a minimum of #4 buck.
Keep the good work and stay safe. High regards,
Jon
Thanks for the comment Jon. I appreciate your persepective because you see so much coming into the ER. I’ll use this on a future show.
GT Distributors in Austin has the Winchester 9mm 127 GR SXT +p+ on the clearance table for $16.99 for a box of 50.
I was all into the show until somebody did the racking of the slide shotgun thing.May be true if a person is a honest criminal the downside is there is a person locked up in Mo because a home owner was told to do that instead of having it already loaded the criminal pointed his glock 17 in the direction of the slide racking and unloaded on him a shot the home owner several times 5-6 times if my memory is right.
Hello Bob. New to your podcast. Very interesting. I know this was back in January, but, what is your thoughts about CorBon Glaser Blue Safety Loads for conceal carry?
Good ammo, I used to use it. But after testing Corbon DPX 115gr, I think the reliable expansion plus the penetration is better than the Glaser Blue.
