A lot of myths about firearms and ammunition are perpetuated on the internet or in gun stores and gun shows. Recently I was at a gun shop and overheard a gun sales clerk give some very bad information to a new gun buyer. So that motivated me to make a list of incorrect firearms information commonly said by internet commandos, gun store clerks or the general public. The problem is that once these myths are told often enough and spread far enough, people start to believe them. So this episode is dedicated to busting those myths. If you know someone new to handguns please ask them to listen to this episode. This episode is released earlier than usual because I’ve got a couple of really good interviews coming up that I want you to hear soon. Thanks for downloading and listening, Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast.
The best one told to me was if a intruder breaks into your home and you pull a gun on them there is a %90 chance that they will take it away from you and kill you with it.
I’m only 10 minutes into it, but to be fair, so far it’s all hyperbole as opposed to myths. When someone says “I haven’t slept in a month” we don’t really believe they have been fully conscious for 720 hours.
Def picked up. Some legit myths, some hyperbole. Even the hyperbole is entertaining. Good show.
Hey – just catching up on a lot of shows… I’m only about 10 shows behind.. 😉
Heard your comment about that pharmacist and the 380. I would have to take exception to your assertion that he got a raw deal. He shot that guy in self defense… I think that’s clear, and justified. If that’s where the story ended, he’d definitely be in the clear. Where he screwed up is when he went to get a 2nd gun and then stood over the guy and shot him 5 more times. The rules of engagement for are pretty clear… When the guy is no longer a threat, deadly force is no longer justified. He basically executed the guy. Last time I checked, that’s illegal.
I have a question – after taking the Mag40 training, would you do what Jerome Ersland did – retrieve a 2nd gun and shoot the guy 5 more times?
Honestly, I’m not trying to bash you or anything like that, but as I think I’ve heard you and other pod casters say in the past – that as moral people who carry, we have to hold ourselves to the highest standards ethically and legally. Mr. Ersland clearly did not… He gave in to that dark side that we all confront in our day to day lives.
Just my 2 cents. Enjoy the show… Keep ’em coming. Thank.
John you are correct. If I could, I think I would take back those comments. After thinking about what I learned at MAG 40, I think Mr. Ersland made a critical mistake. In fact, I think I need to clear this up in a future podcast. Thanks for pointing this out.
