Active shooter situations like the recent Aurora Colorado movie theater shooting and the recent shooting at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin seem to really make people stop and think about their safety and how they plan to keep themselves safe. They almost always lead to more gun sales and more ammo sales. The main topic of this episode is a discussion of how the shooting in Colorado has changed my outlook on concealed carry, training and self defense. How has it changed you? This episode also begins with some listener voice mails. Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne, HandgunWorld Podcast
Hi Bob, You’re right on the money as usual with this lastest podcast. There are plenty of evil people out there just waiting for the chance to do someone harm. It seems our society is leaning towards the view that everyone is naturally good and if they do terrible things it’s because of some outside influence on them and not their own evil nature. Well that’s just not always the case. Me and two of my friends were violently attacked outside of a movie theatre when we were 18 by a gang of people of a different ethnicity than us. This was a totally random attack, we didn’t know them or had ever seen any of them before. They ran up behind us as we were walking to the car and hit us in the back of our heads. I had about a half second warning and managed to turn my head enough so that it was a glancing blow. One of my friends was knocked down immediately. Our saving grace was that we had been taking self defense classes based around Kempo & Jujitsu. We were surrounded by about 20 guys and had no choice but to fight back. Our training kicked in and we landed some hard hits on a couple of them. When the rest saw their friends bleeding they stepped back and were afraid to approach us. We quickly ran to the car and grabbed a mag-lite but the group of attackers had already started running away because a lot of people were taking notice. We had some cuts and bruises but we did OK considering the odds and the fact that one or more of those guys probably had a weapon. We called the cops and filed a report but they told us they couldn’t do anything about it after the fact. I live in a small town in NC where you would never think something like that could happen. I know it can happen, and hope your listeners prepare themselves for when someone attacks them. And as far as those guys being naturally good, I doubt a psychologist could give me a good excuse for each one of them.
Thanks for sharing this. Sorry it happened to you. Looks like training paid off. Not enough people take this seriously and get training.
