This episode is inspired by Paul Markel’s Student of the Gun Podcast dated January 1, 2014 on half measures. I decided to do my own, expanded version of that theme. I also unveil a gun experiment I’m doing this year in 2014 and then answer listener voice mails.

I interviewed 3 guys from a local shooting range called A Place To Shoot, a range here near San Antonio. We discussed what’s involved in running a shooting range, shared some war stories about what has happened at their range recently and even talked about some gunsmithing.

This episode is all about 1911 type pistols. Jon Hodoway of Nighthawk Custom Training joins me to follow up the 1911 podcast we did several months ago. This time we get into great detail about the positives of the 1911 pistol platform. We discussed the advantages of the 1911 and some good 1911 guns to purchase in different price ranges. For those of you who regularly carry and shoot the 1911 pistol, you’ll enjoy this show quite a bit.

Sometimes a person who was anti gun, totally changes their outlook on firearms and actually becomes an avid shooter, concealed carrier and 2nd amendment advocate. On the way to MAG 40 recently I interviewed my friend Mark. He’s one of my shooting buddies and he also traveled with me and trained with me. He used to be anti gun. You’ll hear his story. I also interview Boyd Lemon, owner oh a company called Hillbilly223. He does awesome custom finishes on guns! Thanks for downloading and listening. Bob Mayne

Jon Hodoway is my guest on this show. He agreed to be interviewed due to some challenges I had with some of his comments and quotes of me a few weeks ago. We had a very good civil discussion on concealed carry, caliber, choice of gun, training, stopping power and why he doesn’t like the .380acp! So download and listen as soon as you can. I found this to be very informative and while we don’t see eye to eye on everything, that’s a good thing. Jon does a good job of backing up his arguments and he makes some very convincing points. I like the fact that he used evidence that he’s found and not just pie in the sky theories. We also discussed some expensive 1911’s and a couple of revolvers.
Thanks for listening,
Bob Mayne

Before and after analysis of the Real World Gun Match that’s more defensive oriented than most competition matches in my opinion. I realize it’s still a game, but I shot my carry gun and used my carry gear/holster, etc. This is a relatively short show but I think you’ll enjoy the analysis and shooting results. I also got a chance to shoot a Wilson Combat CQB 1911, so tune in for a quick review on that gun. This Friday I’ll post my recent interview with Jon Hodoway. Remember to join the GRRN forum if you’re not already and check out my Facebook Page, YouTube Videos and Shooters Legion page.
Also, if you haven’t ordered my CD or digital download yet, let me encourage you to do so. You’ll support my show but more importantly, Steve Zopfi and I share some very nice shooting skills advice from Brian Enos’ book. The 9mm 1911 used to be considered a “sissy” gun. Not anymore. Seem like more and more people are choosing to buy the 1911 in this caliber because of the low cost of .45 ammo and the light weight of the gun. And because it’s in a 1911 platform that so many shooters know and love.
Now I’m an owner of a 9mm, 1911 pistol. Tune in to hear about the advantages and disadvantages of this gun and why I bought it and why I think it’s an excellent concealed carry choice for shooters who like the 1911 platform but my want something other than .45acp.
