This time we get into great detail about the positives of the 1911 pistol platform. We discussed the advantages of the 1911 and some good 1911 guns to purchase in different price ranges. Ben Branam discusses how to properly rack the slide on a semi auto pistol. A lot of new shooters have difficulties with this. Especially new shooters who are women who don’t have a lot of hand strength. Even some men don’t properly rack the slide even though they have plenty of strength. Some even cause malfunctions by doing it incorrectly.

Last weekend I hosted Roger Phillips’ class “Point Shooting Progressions.” Wow! What a huge game changer! Never again will I put such an importance on sights on a handgun. I’m not saying they aren’t necessary, but they are far less important now. We were literally making quality hits out to 11 yards without using sights. One student lost his front sight on the 2nd day and finished the class with no front sight! He still made very good hits and was quite accurate without his front sight. Some trainers dismiss the validity of point shooting and go so far as to call it a fraud. I say, “Those who say it can’t be done, should quit bothering those of us who are doing it.” This is a review of the course.

This is a testimonial from a student at Close Range Gunfighting last summer. It’s sometimes good to hear other people’s experiences rather than listening to me talk about it. Many thanks to Damian for sharing his experience.

The ammo crisis is a real one. There’s no telling when ammo prices and supplies will get back to normal, if ever. I think it’s safe to say the firearms climate has changed. Even if sweeping gun control does not pass, the simple threat of it seems to send the markets into frenzy. This week, Jon Hodoway joins me to discuss unique ways to get ammo and whether it makes sense to standardize your calibers or not. He also has some advice for new gun purchasers.

I’ve received a lot of emails and other messages regarding questions from people who want to get into firearms instruction. So I decided to record a podcast about my journey and how it came about and what is required, in my opinion. A lot of people can call themselves an instructor, but it’s my view that you need to have a certain skill set or at least a decent amount of training before teaching others. One cannot teach, that which they do not know.

Due to the ammo shortage and high pricing, I’ve decided to start practicing and training more with .22lr. So I recently purchased 2 conversion kits. One for my Glock and one for my AR-15. This episode is a review of both kits and the reason behind purchasing them.
